FGCU NCAA Selection Party 2013 : On St. Patrick's day, 2013, the NCAA board announced their selections, and FGCU had a party in Alico Arena to share the anticipation, and the celebration. FGCU v Lipscomb Mens BB 1/17/13 : After a great first half, the Eagles slowed down in the second half to end tied with Lipscomb 70 all. The Eagles then fell apart in overtime, turning over the ball at every opportunity it seemed, with Lipscomb outscoring 17 to 8, to finish down 87 to 78. Here are the images I captured from the game. I was using two different lenses mostly, so these are a bit of an experiment and I always welcome criticism and suggestions. FGCU Swimming 01/07/13 : FGCU was at home on Monday 1/7/13 and took down Radford 180-94 in a dual meet. In what was photographically a much more interesting diving event, they did synchronized work from both the 3m and 1m boards. While difficult to get a good angle with both divers in focus, this I did capture a couple of sequences below. I shot a few from the main pool stands where I could get level with the 3m board, which was a better perspective on the divers but awful background behind them. The rest I tried to get them against the sky. The pool certainly wasn't designed with background photogenic scenery in mind! FGCU v UCF WBB 12/22/12 : FGCU Women hosted the UCF Knights and lost, breaking a long wining streak. With the score alternating several times during the game, it ended with a 60-53 win for UCF. Fouls, combined with FCU's ability to make the free throws, were a significant factor with UCF 15 for 19 at the line, compared to zero for two for FGCU. With neither team shooting well, defense and rebounding played a large role, as did free throws especially in the final seconds, where FGCU had an opportunity to put it out of reach, but missing a few left it a very close 2 point game at the buzzer. FGCU vs VCU Soccer 9/14/2012 : My first and not very successful attempt at night soccer. While the field appeared bright, with long lenses there was really not enough light. Many of these are blurred and noisy; my apologies. If you like them, download them; I do this for fun, nothing is for sale (but I do ask photo credit if any are ever published -- though I doubt these will ever be!). FGCU lost 2-1 in a very close, hard-fought game.

FGCU vs Bucknell Soccer September 2, 2012 : I attempted my first soccer shoot with FGCU vs. Bucknell Men's Soccer on September 2, 2012. It was a beautiful day, a strong showing by both teams. Bucknell's defense turned away a huge number of shots on goal by the Eagles, holding to a 1-1 tie in regulation, and at the end of the first overtime. A goal by FGCU in the second overtime by William Morse sealed the win for FGCU. I do this for fun, not money; these images are available for download free of charge, the full resolution shots are here without watermark. Wind and Kite Surfing in Approach of Hurricane Isaac : As Hurricane Isaac came over the keys and traveled off the western shores of Florida, it kicked up a lot of winds, but (since they were from the shore) not huge surf. It was a hot day, the players were amazing in the sun. The Sun drove me away before the end, but I did capture these images. Fireworks Cape Coral 2012 : The Annual Red White and Boom celebration at the Cape Coral Bridge, Wednesday July 4, 2012, as seen from our boat just north of the bridge. The rocking of the boat meant very short exposure times, high ISO, and a bit of luck. It also means none of the dreamy, long exposures with arcs, it is stop action fireworks, so they look different from typical fireworks images.

Fort Myers Beach Volleyball Club July 2012 : I happened to notice the Ft. Myers Beach Volleyball Club website mentioned a playoff on Sunday, July 1, 2012. I love shooting beach volleyball, but rarely have the chance. This was my third attempt, and I welcome criticism and comment. The Women's Division started first, and I stayed for most of it. I had hoped to catch at least some of the Men's, but it started late and the sun drove me away after about three hours. The matches are held behind the DiamondHead Beach Resort in the middle of Ft. Myers Beach. Brett and Troy Hayes welcomed me, and I had a lot of fun. This is a non-commercial site, I do not sell anything. You can download and use these for free; I do ask if they are published anywhere that I receive photo credit. Roller Derby - Ft. Myers Derby Girls - Misdemeanors vs. Bombshells! : Ever in search of interesting photographic subjects, someone suggested the Ft. Myers Roller Derby Misdemeanors, so Joe, Ed and I headed out for my first ever Roller Derby on April 22, 2012 when they took on the Bradenton Nuclear Bombshells. The lighting was very difficult, and the action quick, but a few images came out. And the final score was an impressive home team win of 209 to 40. I do this for fun, if you like any images you can download and use without charge, I do ask photo credit if published anywhere. Tennis: FGCU v JU 2012 : Trying out the new D800, I stopped by for some Tennis at FGCU, where both men's and women's were playing Jacksonville University. The sun drove me away before it was over, but there was some great tennis, especially one Men's match that went into a tie breaker -- which then was tied again through 9-9 before JU managed to win a few points later. Gora Sunday Concert series on February 25, 2012, with Little Eddie and the Fat Fingers, a blues band from Naples. Despite some threat of rain, a good crowd gathered and had a wonderful time. Dig The Beach Ft. Myers 2010 : June 5th, 2010 and the Dig The Beach volleyball tourament at the Holiday Inn on Ft. Myers beach. It was VERY hot, and I stayed only the first few hours, and captured these images. This was my first attempt at volleyball shots (or anything similar). I found it very hard to get the shot at the right instant. Even at full auto, the moment of contact with the ball was elusive. It was amazing to watch not only the talent of the players, but the endurance in spite of the heat. As always, I do this for fun, you may download and use these with no charge (but if published please give photo credit).

Cape Coral Cardboard Boat Regatta 2009 : The 15th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta was held in Four Freedoms' park on Saturday April 25th. You can read more about the event at their website here. In addition to lots of events before and after, it was about 4 hours of races of all cardboard boats that ranged from amazingly effective and fast, to just plain amazing they floated (and a few did not). We anchored off shore and had a good view of the starting line, and I captured these images. Please feel free to comment.
