Bobcat

A bobcat wandered by behind me (between me and the road, I was by the pond). He paid no attention to the people at all. I kept this shot mostly because of how clearly it showed the tail and ears and body pattern. (ID#107509)

Florida Bobcat

The bobcat walked along the pond, slowly; not seeming to hunt, just walking. We walked along the road, about 30' away, and tried to get ahead. Every once in a while the cat would stop and glare at us, then go back to walking. He seemed almost completely unconcerned we were there. (ID#107510)

Bobcat

Another shot when the bobcat stopped to look at us, then resumed walking. After 150' or so, he walked into some tall grass, lay down and cleaned. We walked up within about 15' or so, but the grass was too tall for decent shots. The cat could see us, but was completely unconcerned. After 15 minutes or so got up, and walked back into the woods, still in no hurry. (ID#107511)

STA5 group

We went to STA5 associated with a birding outing. They asked photographers to arrive early, and we just wandered. The main group was quite a collection, maybe 50 or so people in a 15-20 cars. While this looks crowded, it was taken at 400mm and this road (of many) fades in the distance -- hundreds could be lost in the size of this place. (ID#107512)

Wide view

Another view giving some sense of scale, this view is at 200mm across one pond. You can see another car in the distance, a bit distorted by heat waves off the surface, perhaps a half mile away. Notice the pound is covered with birds. At least half the time we could not see another car or human. (ID#107513)

A large number of white pelecans were here, but on my visit were always pretty far from the shore.

Narrow roads, big vehicles

The roads are narrow, and you have to take care to leave room for the infrequent car to pass. Some people did not come prepared for narrow roads, this couple drove around continuously, I never saw them stop, just drive and drive... in the big RV. Even so we saw them only 3-4 times. This shot gives some concept of the problems they had passing (but they appeared to be good drivers and passed easily, if a bit scary) (ID#107515)

Fish

The water was filled with fish, you saw motion on the surface all the time. Also alligators, more than I have seen ever, including on everglades trips. One pond in about 3000 sq ft had 25 alligators in it. We found one spot with shallow water and I pulled out the polarizer to get a few shots of what was leaving all the wakes. I have no idea what they were. (ID#107516)
